Sustainable Landscape Design presentation by Marlies Manning, ASLA, of Manning Design
"Green Design" is the buzzword for eco-friendly design, either architectural design or site design. Sustainable design is another term for eco-friendly design that uses resources such as energy, water, materials, and land more efficiently and effectively. One major aspect of Sustainable Design is conserving water. Water conservation is becoming more critical today as large areas of our country experience drought and the Great Lakes water levels continue to drop. Marlies will present how stormwater can be sensitively handled useing rain gardens, roof gardens, pervious pavements, rain cisterns, and bioswales. Discussion will include the Twin Creek Rain Garden that was planted in August 2007 and located just west of the city of Evart Depot parking lot. The rain garden was installed to prevent stormwater runoff from entering Twin Creek. Funding for this project was provided by a grant received from the Fremont Area Community Foundation under the Ice Mountain Environmental Stewardship Fund, and the City of Evart. Come and learn about rain gardens and view the Twin Creek Rain Garden yourself.
Plant Sale will include native wildflowers, grasses, sedges and ferns from Designs By Nature.
Here is just a small sample of what species will be available: Butterfly Weed, Gray Headed Coneflower, Boneset, Blue Eyed Grass, Prairie Smoke, Great Blue Lobelia, Wild Iris, Rough Blazingstar, Wild Lupine, Pennsylvania Sedge, Big and Little Bluestem, Indian Grass, Maidenhair Fern, Cinnamon Fern, Wild Ginger, and much much more!
*Availability may be limited. Depends on seeds collected or plants rescued. Orders will not be taken for this sale. You must be present to purchase plants.
